The overarching goals of my research are to integrate basic scientific advances in the field of TB with clinical and epidemiological research methods to help improve the care of patients with TB and HIV/TB worldwide. Given the devastating impact of TB on the developing world, I conduct the majority of my academic activities in resource-limited settings, specifically Hanoi, Vietnam, where I am involved in the conduct of CDC and NIH-funded studies of new and promising TB diagnostics, as well as Phase 2 and 3 clinical trials in TB therapeutics.
