Description

The purpose of PrimeRISK III is to further expand upon an academic and clinical program (PrimeRISK I and II) that prepares Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) students to deliver expert, culturally competent, and comprehensive primary health care to high-risk populations, and to increase the number of minority and disadvantaged nurses trained as FNPs. The PrimeRISK I and II programs focused on high-risk populations, with particular attention to the homeless, incarcerated, and mentally ill. PrimeRISK III will expand the focus to include immigrant, refugee, and migrant populations. Building upon knowledge and practices gleaned from the original project (PrimeRISK I), as well as the second phase (PrimeRISK II), this project also seeks to improve the healthcare infrastructure caring for high-risk populations by establishing critical linkages between correctional facilities, the public health sector, community organizations and academia. This is a competing continuation project, and the statutory funding preference is requested based on the project’s exclusive focus on underserved populations. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for national certification as Family Nurse Practitioners by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
