A National Trauma Registry to Inform Policy in Cameroon
Location(s): Cameroon
Description
Since 2007, Dr. Juillard has been collaborating with the Ministry of Public Health of Cameroon to build a National Trauma Registry. A successful pilot registry was launched in 2009 at the Central Hospital of Yaoundé that clearly highlighted the significant burden of injury in the region attributable to road traffic incidents. This prompted the formation of a National Injury Committee tasked with implementing strategic prevention policy by decree of the country’s prime minister, illustrating the powerful impact of these data on populations. To provide the evidence for injury prevention efforts and surveillance to monitor effect, the Center for Global Surgical Studies is currently working with the Ministry of Public Health of Cameroon to expand the National Trauma Registry to six hospitals in its next phase.
