Description

The HEAL Initiative curriculum is designed to educate and train its fellows in health equity, action, and leadership within the context of global health delivery. In keeping with our mission of health equity and collaboration, the HEAL curriculum is intended for both rotating and site fellows. All participants complete a month-long intensive global health Bootcamp at the start of the program, followed by two years of ongoing interactive curricula. In addition to an online Master in Public Health from UC Berkeley, HEAL fellows will come away with a set of robust and versatile skills that reflect the core competencies of global health delivery.

HEAL Core Competencies

1) Provision of high quality care focused on local burden of disease

2) Incorporation into and effective engagement with local health system

3) Demonstration of leadership and interprofessionalism

4) Development of strong and diverse teaching skills

5) Advocacy for communities, health systems, and patients

6) Adherence to principles of health equity and ethics in clinical and academic work

CONTINUING CURRICULUM

Throughout the two-year fellowship, HEAL fellows will engage in an ongoing curriculum that reinforces and builds upon the skills gained during the July Bootcamp through problem-based learning and facilitated discussion.  The ongoing curricula will include case studies presented by fellows, discussion of academic journal articles relevant to global health delivery, as well as tailored curricula based on fellows’ individual learning goals.

All fellows will work closely with assigned mentors to develop individual development plans (IDPs) mapped to the HEAL core competencies.  These plans will be revisited on a monthly basis and will evolve during the two years.
