The Foundation's Future of Nursing Scholars program was designed to create a diverse cadre of new PhD-prepared nurses who are committed to a long-term leadership career to strengthen nursing education, advance science and discovery through research, and lead change in nursing and health care.This grant supports one Future of Nursing Scholar at the University of California San Francisco, School of Nursing to complete their PhD in nursing in three years. The students will begin their PhD program in fall 2014 and graduate in 2017. RWJF funding of $75,000 will be used for tuition, fees, living expenses, health insurance, or professional development activities. The University of California San Francisco, School of Nursing, will provide a match of $50,000. The scholar will have access to $125,000 over three years to support their PhD education. The school and the scholar will determine how the funds will be used to support the scholar over the three years of the program. This scholar will join 16 other scholars at 14 schools as the inaugural cohort of the Future of Nursing Scholars program.
