Description

In response to the growing rates of obstetric negligence, and the evidence of lack of quality care in healthcare facilities, global organizations have researched the various types of abuse associated with childbirth. During the second stage of labor, uterine fundal pressure is often applied to assist in vaginal delivery and expedite the birth of the newborn. A report by the USAID categorized fundal pressure as physical abuse in obstetrics. In Spain, 1 in 4 vaginal births undergo the procedure. We aim to characterize the perspectives of women who have experienced the procedure, and providers and lawyers in the field of obstetrics with the use of qualitative methods.
