This initiative aims to create school environments that encourage healthy eating, physical activity and wellness – promoting student health to further academic achievement.
The Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) Youth Wellness Champions are the youth arm of the Bechtel Foundation-funded Oakland Wellness Initiative for healthier school environments at five Oakland schools. Groups of youth from Oakland, Oakland Technical, and Fremont high schools, as well as West Oakland and Urban Promise Academy middle schools coordinate wellness campaigns for their campuses.
