Description
The WHO estimates that of the 40 million amputees throughout the developing world, only 5% have access to any form of prosthetic assistance. A mixed methods study will be conducted to determine the limitations affecting access to prostheses at the Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute (MOI) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Qualitative interviews, observation of the providers, and the costs of prostheses will be used to create a process map of the hospital system, with the ultimate goal of improving the efficiency and communication within MOI to increase accessibility to prosthetic devices for amputees.
