THERAPEUTIC EFFICACY TRIAL:  ROUTINE ANTIMALARIAL THERAPEUTIC EFFICACY STUDIES
Objective 1: To estimate the clinical and parasitological efficacy of two ACTs (AL and AQ+AS) for the treatment of uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria in children at three sites in Uganda

Objective 2: To evaluate the incidence of adverse events to two ACTs (AL and AQ+AS) for the treatment of uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria in children at three sites in Uganda

Objective 3: To differentiate recrudescences from new infections by the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) analysis

Objective 4: To determine molecular markers in relation to reduced susceptibility to the ACTs

Objective 5: To formulate recommendations to enable the Ministry of Health make informed decisions about the possible need for updating of the current national antimalarial treatment guidelines

IMPACT EVALUATION: MALARIA CONTROL EFFORTS IMPACT EVALUATION STUDY
Objective 1: To measure the degree to which malaria control interventions have been implemented and scaled up in Uganda, as measured against targets set in the national strategic plan, as well as international goals
Objective 2: To assess malaria-related morbidity and mortality before, during, and after scale-up of malaria control interventions

Objective 3: To assess the plausible attribution of the scale-up of malaria control interventions on changes in malaria-related morbidity and all-cause and malaria-related mortality
