Location(s): Zambia

Description

Practicing hand hygiene is critical in preventing healthcare-acquired infections. However, healthcare workers’ adherence to recommended practices remains low, particularly in low-income countries. This study will explore the reactions of healthcare workers to a hand hygiene training film and its impact on the knowledge of, attitudes towards and practice of hand hygiene at Ndola Central Hospital, Zambia. Methods used will include: pre and post-training film questionnaire surveys, qualitative individual interviews, and observational investigations. Characterizing the perceived impact on hand hygiene practices may also provide information around barriers for successful implementation of recommended hand hygiene practices leading to sustainable infection control practices.
