In 2018, Blood Research Systems Institute (BSRI) transitioned to a new name: Vitalant Research Institute. BSRI was founded from the Scientific Services of Blood Centers of the Pacific in 2004. The founding institution, Irwin Memorial Blood Bank, was founded in 1941.
