Location(s): Uganda

Description

In Uganda, more than 1 in every 10 infants is born preterm. Kangaroo Care (KMC), an intervention that is effective in reducing the mortality and complications due to prematurity, is recommended to be practiced during the first day of every preterm neonate’s life. In Jinja, Uganda, the use of KMC during this day and the acute conditions that influence KMC practice remain unclear. This quantitative study will seek to determine the time to initiation and frequency of KMC and assess the characteristics of preterm infants during the first 24 hours of neonatal life at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital in Uganda.
