Description

Dr. Acharya is the co-founder of Shared Minds (www.sharedminds.org), a non-profit organization that provides culturally-appropriate, evidence-based clinical training and supervision for clinicians in Nepal.  Health professional schools in low-income countries frequently exclude topics that leave health providers inadequately prepared care for their patients. Mental health is often less than 1% of the curriculum even though 20-30% of patients in a health clinic are struggling with mental illness. Shared Minds creates and disseminates culturally-appropriate training and clinical support developed in shared partnership with expert minds around the world to help address these gaps. Our team closely studies these interventions, refines them and creates scaleable packages that can be disseminated in the region to benefit hundreds of thousands of people.
